The Inster is Hyundai's cheeky little electric city car, a tiny, tall, characterful EV with surprising space inside thanks to a flat floor and sliding, folding seats. It's easy to park, and clever enough to power your appliances through its vehicle to load outlet. You choose the Standard Range for the city or add the Extended Range battery for more distance, with a rugged look Cross variant on top. All come with Hyundai's five year warranty, up to seven with Hyundai servicing, and an eight year battery warranty.

★ Editor's Pick · The AutoFocus Verdict

The Base is the value way into the Inster and perfect for the city, with nothing important saved for the dearer versions. It isn't the cheapest small EV going, so its case rests on genuinely clever packaging, the flat floor and sliding, folding seats that make a tiny footprint feel roomy, rather than price alone. The Extended Range option is the one decision that matters: about $3,500 gets you a bigger battery and a stronger motor, and it's worth taking unless the car will genuinely never leave the suburbs.
