The Kona Electric is the fully electric version of Hyundai's small SUV, sold separately from the petrol and hybrid Kona. It keeps the same roomy, easy to live with five seat cabin and twin widescreen displays, and pairs them with battery power in two strengths: a Standard Range suited to city and suburban driving, and an Extended Range with enough range for road trips. It can also run appliances from a vehicle to load outlet, handy for camping or the job site. Like every Hyundai it comes with a five year warranty, which stretches to seven if you service with Hyundai.

The AutoFocus Verdict

The Standard Range is best thought of as a city car. Charged at home and driven locally, its range is plenty and nothing that matters day to day is missing, but longer trips need planning and the modest motor runs out of enthusiasm on the open road. If it's the household's second car, save the money; if it's your only car, the Extended Range is worth the stretch.
