The Yaris is a small city hatchback, and every grade is a hybrid. It's easy to park, cheap to run, and comes with the same advanced safety features Toyota puts in much pricier cars. That makes it a sensible, safe choice for a first car or for getting around town.

The AutoFocus Verdict
Don't let the entry price fool you. The Ascent Sport already has wireless CarPlay, keyless entry, parking sensors and Toyota's core safety suite, and it uses just as little fuel as the dearer grades. What you go without is the bigger digital display, brighter headlights and automatic climate control, which the SX adds, plus the ZR's blind-spot monitoring. For a cheap, no fuss city car it's hard to fault.
The mid grade, adding nicer lighting and cabin comforts.
The top grade, with the most features and sportier styling.
