The Solterra is Subaru's electric SUV, and a Subaru through and through, with standard dual motor all wheel drive and, more unusually for an EV, all terrain ability that most electric rivals can't match. Heavily updated for 2026 with more power, more range and a sharper, cleaner look, it pairs a strong dual motor system with long range, plus X-Mode and good clearance for dirt roads and snow. It's a comfortable, quiet, well built family EV that can actually head well offroad, though unfortunately it is not rated to tow. It comes in AWD and the better equipped AWD Touring, backed by Subaru's five year warranty and an eight year battery warranty.

★ Editor's Pick · The AutoFocus Verdict

Every Solterra is dual-motor AWD, but what really sets it apart from other EVs is the offroad ability, with dual-function X-Mode and 212mm of ground clearance for dirt roads and snow. The full Subaru Safety Sense suite is standard, and the base is genuinely well equipped, with quality-of-life kit like a heated steering wheel and seats and a powered tailgate with hands-free kick sensor. It's the pick for buyers who want an electric SUV that can actually go offroad.
