The Carnival Hybrid is the hybrid version of Australia's favourite people mover, with the same vast eight seat cabin and sliding door practicality, but with a turbo petrol hybrid that uses much less fuel around town. For a vehicle this size that is a real saving, and it makes the hybrid the pick for families doing most of their kilometres in the city and suburbs. It cannot tow as much as the diesel, so caravan owners should look at that one instead. It comes in S, Sport+ and GT-Line grades. The diesel is listed separately.

The AutoFocus Verdict
The S Hybrid is the cheapest way into an electrified people mover, about $1,750 over the diesel S, and it quietly gets the climate control the diesel S goes without. Around town it's the cheaper car to run by a wide margin. The catch is towing: the hybrid is rated to half what the diesel can pull, so if there's a caravan in your life this isn't the one.
