The Mazda 3 is Mazda's small car, a neatly styled hatch that is also sold as a sedan. The cabin feels well finished for the price and it is good to drive, though the full driver assist suite is only standard from the Touring grade up. There is a choice of two petrol engines: a frugal entry option, or a more powerful one with extra pull for overtaking and hills, across six grades from the value Pure to the leather lined Astina. It suits buyers who want a small car that feels a step more premium than the mainstream.

The AutoFocus Verdict
Even in entry Pure form, the cabin feels a step nicer than rival small cars, and it already has most of what you need day to day. Against the Evolve you do without wireless phone mirroring, a wireless charger and dual zone climate. It also goes without keyless entry, though so does the Evolve, since that only arrives on the Touring. If you can live without those, the Pure is the value buy; if you'd use them every day, the Evolve is a small and worthwhile step up.
