The Mustang is an icon, a rear wheel drive muscle car and one of the last affordable V8 coupes. The current Mustang keeps a turbo four for value, but the heart of the range is the V8, available with a proper six speed manual or an automatic, as a Fastback coupe or a Convertible. Above the GT sits the track honed Dark Horse. It has two plus two seating, a big digital dash and a V8 soundtrack nothing else at the price matches.

The AutoFocus Verdict
The EcoBoost is the affordable way into a new Mustang. It looks the part, handles tidily thanks to less weight over the nose, and is far cheaper to run than the V8, but it can't give you the noise or character of the V8. If the badge and the drive matter more than the engine it delivers plenty for the money; if you want a Mustang for the V8, save for the GT.
The V8 heart of the range, the one most should buy.
The track focused flagship, the sharpest Mustang.
