Ford Ranger vs Mitsubishi Triton

The Ranger is the ute everyone measures against, and the Triton is one of the sharpest-value ways to get most of what it offers. Both are diesel dual cabs that tow 3,500kg, carry a 5-star rating and go well off sealed roads. The gap is in price, warranty and how plush you want it.

The verdict

The Ranger is the more complete and more refined truck. Its cabin and big touchscreen set the class standard, the range runs from work ute to the Platinum and the Raptor, and higher grades add a strong V6 diesel the Triton has no answer to. The Triton makes its case on value and cover. It undercuts a like-for-like Ranger, its 2026 comfort retune made it noticeably nicer to drive, and Mitsubishi backs it for up to 10 years and 200,000km if you keep servicing with them, against Ford's five.

Both are genuinely capable off-road, the Triton with its Super Select 4WD and the V6 Ranger with its permanent four-wheel-drive mode, so neither gives much away there. Choose the Ranger if you want the benchmark cabin, the V6 or the broader range and you are happy to pay for it. Choose the Triton if you want most of the ute for less money and the longest warranty in the class. Line up the same body style and grade in the tool, because the Ranger's range is wide and its entry price starts with bare work utes.
